Privacy Policy

The microphone

Daily Guitar listens through your device's microphone so that lessons, chord practice, and the tuner can respond to what you play. This is the core of how the app works.

• Audio is analysed on your device, in real time, and discarded immediately.
• Audio is never recorded to a file, never saved, and never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
• Nothing said or played near the device is retained after the moment it is heard.
• The app only listens during lessons, practice, and the tuner. On a song from the library the microphone is off until you turn it on, using the microphone button in the song's own controls.
• You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device settings, though the app cannot listen to your playing without it.

Your account

Daily Guitar asks you to sign in with Google or with Apple so that your lessons, songs, and settings follow you to a new phone. From whichever of those you choose, we receive and store:

• Your email address
• Your name
• The web address of your profile picture, where one is given

We never see or store your password. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email address, Apple gives us a relay address instead of your real one, and that is all we hold.

What we keep about your practice

Stored against your account so it survives a new phone:

• Which lessons you have opened and finished, and how far through each one you were
• Which chord shapes you have cleared
• Which songs you have played along to, including the title, artist, and chords of the recording
• The answers you gave when you set the app up: whether you had a guitar to hand, why you are learning, how long you have been playing, and the practice schedule you chose

None of this is sold, shared, or used for advertising. It exists so the app can put you back where you left off and so your reminders arrive when you asked for them.

Practice reminders

If you ask for practice reminders, we store a notification token for your device and the schedule you picked, so that a reminder can be sent at the right time where you are. Reminders are delivered by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, acting as our processor.

The time where you are comes from your device's own timezone setting. We do not use location services, and the app never asks for your location. Turning reminders off in the app, or notifications off in your device settings, stops them.

Information you choose to send us

If you use the support form inside the app to contact us, we receive what you enter:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your message
• A screenshot or photo, only if you choose to attach one

We use this solely to read your message, reproduce the problem you are describing, and reply to you. We do not use it for marketing, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not share it with anyone. The app asks for photo library access only at the moment you choose to attach something.

Talking to us on WhatsApp

The app has a Talk to us button that opens a conversation with us in WhatsApp. Tapping it hands you over to WhatsApp, and from that point WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies to the conversation — including your phone number, which WhatsApp shows us and we never see any other way.

Nothing is sent to us until you send it. If you would rather not use WhatsApp, the support form inside the app and the email address at the foot of this page reach the same people.

Understanding how the app is used

We use PostHog to understand which parts of Daily Guitar are used and for how long — which screen is open, how long a session lasts, and how often the app is opened. This tells us which lessons people finish and which ones they give up on, which is how the teaching gets better.

It is recorded against an identifier generated on your device when you install the app. That identifier is not joined to your account. We do not record your screen, and we do not use this information for advertising.

Crash and performance reports

When the app crashes or behaves badly, a diagnostic report is sent to Sentry, processed in the United States, so we can find and fix the fault. These reports describe the software, not you: the error and where in the code it happened, the app version, the device model, and the operating system version. They do not contain your name, your email, your location, or any audio.

The play-along videos

Songs are played along to using standard YouTube video embeds of publicly available recordings. We do not download, copy, or re-host any video or audio. When a video plays, YouTube receives that request directly from your device, and Google's privacy policy applies to it. We do not tell YouTube who you are.

What stays on your device

Some things are kept only on your phone and never sent to us, including your appearance and theme preference, whether you have completed the introduction, and whether you have switched the microphone on for songs. Deleting the app deletes these permanently; we have no copy and cannot restore them.

Who processes your data

• Supabase — accounts, practice data, and support messages
• PostHog — understanding how the app is used
• Sentry — crash and performance reports
• Google Firebase — delivering practice reminders
• Google and Apple — signing you in, when you choose one of them
• WhatsApp — only if you use the Talk to us button
• YouTube — the play-along videos

What we do not do

• We do not show advertising.
• We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not use the advertising identifier.
• We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
• We do not build advertising or marketing profiles about you.
• We do not record audio, and we do not record your screen.

How long we keep things

Your account and the practice data attached to it are kept until you delete your account, after which they are removed. Support messages and any attached image are kept for as long as needed to resolve your issue and to keep a record of the conversation, and are deleted when no longer needed. Crash reports and usage data are retained by Sentry and PostHog for a limited period under their standard retention policies and then removed automatically.

Children

Daily Guitar is a general-audience app suitable for all ages. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it promptly.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account, and everything described above that is attached to it, from inside the app:

Courses tab → your picture in the top right → Delete account

You will be asked to confirm twice, and then it is done and cannot be undone. If you would rather we did it for you, or you no longer have the app installed, email the address below and we will action it.

Deleting your account sets out the steps in full, and exactly what is removed and what is kept.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email us and we will action it. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of your information in a portable form, to object to how we use it, or to complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
